Air conditioning is all-season comfort. Without AC, your business would be swelteringly hot in the summer and unbearably cold in the winter. As a business owner, you know how important it is to keep your employees and customers comfortable year-round.

What happens when that essential AC unit starts to show signs of trouble? How can you tell if something is wrong with the AC at your business? Let’s explore some common signs that may indicate an issue.

Unusual Noises

While it’s normal for an AC unit to make some noise while running, loud or unusual noises could be a sign of a problem. If you hear banging, grinding, or rattling sounds coming from your AC unit, it could indicate loose or faulty components. If these components stay loose or broken, it could lead to further damage and potentially require expensive repairs, so don’t delay in calling a professional for an inspection.

Strange Odors

Yuck, what’s that smell? If your AC system is emitting unpleasant odors, it could be a sign of mildew or mold growth inside the unit. This can happen when moisture becomes trapped in the system and allows bacteria to grow. Mildew, and especially mold, can cause an unpleasant stench and respiratory problems among your staff and customers.

To avoid mildew and mold, regularly clean and replace your AC filters. You can also invest in air purifiers or set up a commercial HVAC maintenance schedule so your system gets cleaned on a regular basis. And if you do notice unpleasant odors coming from your AC, don’t hesitate to call an expert for help.

No Cool Air

The AC is running on full blast, so why is it still so hot in here? If your AC is blowing warm or room temperature air, there could be a few reasons why.

First, check the thermostat to make sure it’s set to the correct temperature and mode (cooling instead of heating). If everything seems to be configured correctly, then there may be an issue with the AC compressor. The compressor is responsible for circulating refrigerant through your system and if it’s not functioning properly, it can result in warm air coming from your vents. Other potential causes could include low refrigerant levels or a clogged air filter.

Weak Airflow

If your air conditioning system is running, but you’re not feeling much airflow from the vents, it could be due to a few different reasons. One of the most common culprits is a dirty or clogged air filter. Over time, dust and debris can build up in the air filter, restricting airflow and making it harder for the system to cool your business effectively.

Another possible cause of weak airflow could be an issue with the ductwork. If there are leaks or blockages in the ducts, it can prevent adequate airflow and reduce the cooling power of your AC system. Whatever the cause, weak airflow means that your AC is working harder than it needs to, which can lead to higher energy bills and potential damage to your system.

If you notice any of these signs something is wrong with your commercial AC, call a professional technician to inspect your system. They’ll be able to diagnose the issue and make necessary repairs or replacements. It’s always better to address these issues sooner rather than later, as they can quickly worsen.
