Leprous delivered an unforgettable performance at The Underground in Charlotte, NC, Friday night, leaving a lasting impression with their powerful stage presence and undeniable talent. From the moment they took the stage, it was evident that the band was in perfect harmony, each member playing with precision and unity that can only come from years of experience. The sound quality was astonishing, approaching near CD-level perfection, thanks to an exceptional sound engineer who ensured that every intricate layer of the band’s complex music was crystal clear. This really allowed the audience to fully appreciate Leprous’ detailed and textured sound.
The energy on stage was electric, and the crowd was immediately swept up in it, creating an engaging and dynamic back-and-forth between the band and their fans. Lead vocalist Einar Solberg was the undeniable focal point, captivating everyone with his extraordinary vocal range and emotional delivery. His ability to switch from haunting, soft tones to powerful, operatic highs is nothing short of mesmerizing. Even though I wasn’t familiar with every track or the entire setlist, the performance was so good that it didn’t matter. Leprous seamlessly transitioned from song to song, creating a cohesive narrative that carried the audience on an emotional journey. It was as much about the atmosphere they built as it was about the individual songs.
One of the things that truly sets Leprous apart is their ability to shine in a live setting. While their studio recordings are impressive, seeing them in person takes the experience to a whole new level. The sheer power of their stage presence and the intensity of their live sound adds layers of emotion and energy that can’t be captured on a record. Fans of progressive acts like The Contortionist, Tesseract, or Silent Planet will undoubtedly find a lot to love in Leprous, yet the band’s unique style ensures they stand out even among these peers.
Special thanks go to Monica of Speakeasy PR for the invite and for introducing us to this incredible band. Leprous exceeded all expectations, and there’s no doubt that when they return to Charlotte, we’ll be there, eager to experience their captivating performance once again. If you haven’t listened to Leprous yet, take a moment – you won’t regret it!
