Jack Black is officially joining the cast of the upcoming Weezer movie. The news was confirmed by frontman Rivers Cuomo. He posted an AI-generated movie poster featuring Black on the band’s Discord server, writing, “Nope, it’s real.”
The cast already includes Keanu Reeves, Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, and Johnny Knoxville. The film is being directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, known for Paranormal Activity. It’s reported to be a mockumentary in the style of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Cuomo announced the project during Weezer’s Coachella 2025 performance. He revealed that filming had been taking place in Los Angeles. Actor Keanu Reeves is rumored to play a villain in the movie. This marks a reunion of sorts, as Weezer once opened for Reeves’ band Dogstar in 1992.
Jack Black has a connection to Weezer that runs deep. In 2001, Tenacious D toured with Weezer. His wife, Tanya Haden, also contributed cello to the band’s 2003 Green Day cover.
The film adds Weezer to a growing list of California rock acts with cinematic features. Pavement is the subject of Pavements, a unique film by Alex Ross Perry. Green Day is currently filming New Years Rev, based on their early years touring in a van.
No official release date has been announced yet. However, fan buzz continues to grow as more details emerge. With a cast packed full of comedy and rock legends, this film is shaping up to be a must-watch.
Stay tuned for updates on the Weezer movie as production continues. For now, fans can enjoy the hype and speculate on what’s next.
