Green Day to Receive Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame: A Punk Rock Legacy Cemented in Stone

Twenty years after the release of their smash hit “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” Green Day has a legacy that is getting a permanent place in the heart of Hollywood.

On Thursday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m. PT, the iconic punk rock trio — Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool — will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, right outside the legendary Amoeba Music store at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard. This marks the 2,810th star added to the historic sidewalk since its inception in 1960.

Joining the celebration are two megastars from outside the music world: tennis legend Serena Williams and actor/producer Ryan Reynolds, both scheduled as guest speakers. Matt Pinfield, longtime music journalist and beloved radio/TV host, will emcee the event. For fans unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be streamed live via the Walk of Fame’s official website.

This tribute comes after decades of groundbreaking music and cultural influence. Since forming in Berkeley, California, in 1986, Green Day has delivered 12 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, with three hitting No. 1 — American Idiot (2004), 21st Century Breakdown (2009), and Revolution Radio (2016). Their emotional and rebellious anthems — including “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends” — earned them five Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year in 2006.

Green Day’s contributions to music were recognized with their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2015, and their legacy continues to grow — the band headlined both Saturday nights at Coachella this year, performing for over 200,000 fans.

Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez shared: “Green Day’s music has not only inspired generations but also served as the soundtrack to our lives.”

🎤 Whether it was rebellion in the ‘90s or resilience in the 2000s, Green Day’s sound has always struck a chord. And now, their name will live on — right where the dreams of Hollywood meet the spirit of punk rock.
