Demi Lovato is back in the pop spotlight. On August 1, the singer released “Fast,” her first official pop song in three years.
Driven by an EDM-infused, club-ready beat, “Fast” channels the bold energy of past hits like “Cool for the Summer.” Lovato belts, “I wanna go fast / I wanna go hard / I wanna go anywhere, anywhere you are.”
The track marks a major shift for Lovato. In 2022, she “held a funeral” for her pop music and pivoted to rock. That transformation led to Holy Fvck and Revamped, which reimagined her earlier pop songs in full rock mode.
But “Fast” signals a comeback—and possibly more. According to Rolling Stone, the single is just a preview. Lovato is working on a full dance-pop album, described as “celebratory” and inspired by her romance with husband Jordan “Jutes” Lutes.
Producer Zhone, who’s involved in the project, told the magazine, “This album is about letting inhibitions go. We had so much fun making this music!”
To celebrate her return to pop, Lovato revisited an old controversy. In 2021, she publicly criticized The Bigg Chill frozen yogurt shop for displaying calorie counts. The incident sparked backlash, and Lovato later apologized.
Now, she’s making peace with the past. She posted a video from a recent visit to the shop, captioned, “love you bigg chill.”
With “Fast,” Lovato is reclaiming her space in pop with energy, confidence, and a fresh sound. A new era is officially underway.
