Disco Meets Design at Closely Crafted’s Dazzling 2025 Move the Needle Gala

Move the needle gala 2025

On Thursday night, Closely Crafted lit up downtown Manhattan with its third annual Move the Needle gala. This year’s event, After Dark, shimmered with disco-inspired flair while honoring the artisans redefining American fashion’s future.

A Mission in Motion:
Held at Petite Disco, the event fused glamour with purpose. Closely Crafted, founded by acclaimed milliner Gigi Burris O’Hara in 2022, remains devoted to preserving domestic craftsmanship. The nonprofit advances its mission through educational programs, apprenticeships, and industry advocacy.

“Passing down artisan skills to the next generation is a profound honor,” said Burris O’Hara. “Local artisans allowed me to grow sustainably, and I’m determined to ensure others have that same opportunity.”

Star Designers and Studio Legends:
The Move The Needle Gala event drew a stylish crowd, including Christopher John Rogers, Presley Oldham, Hillary Taymour, and Batsheva Hay. Attendees gathered under shimmering mirrorballs, sipping Woodford Reserve cocktails and sampling locally sourced cuisine.

Mark Stephen Experiential brought the venue to life with upcycled decor. A standout performance—led by International Pleating and MELKE—captured the life cycle of a garment through live movement and pleated muslin.

Why Local Matters:
Designer Hillary Taymour emphasized the ecological benefits of staying close to home. “Local production gives us flexibility and shrinks our environmental footprint,” she explained. Oldham echoed this: “Building locally lets me grow at the right pace while preserving quality and craftsmanship.”

Looking Ahead:
Though it pulsed with retro beats and glitter, the night was more than a party. It was a statement. Closely Crafted continues to champion the next wave of American makers—one stitch, pleat, and thread at a time.
